Alex began playing the French Horn at the age of 12 under the tuition of Andy Currie. Early playing was focused with the Bromley Youth Music Trust and culminated in Alex being awarded the principal horn chair of the concert band in 2002. The very next year he became principal horn with the symphony orchestra and won a total of three gold medals at the festival of Music for Youth at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall. As well as touring Europe with these ensembles he also toured around Japan with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (co-principal) with whom he regularly performed at the Barbican.

Further tuition followed at the Guildhall Junior School and in 2004 Alex was accepted at the Royal Northern College of Music to study under three of the countries top teachers, Pete Francombe, Lindsey Stoker and Lizzie Davis. At the college Alex has performed with numerous ensembles including the RNCM symphony orchestra. Externally he has also performed with Sinfonia Cymbru, Jersey Symphony Orchestra and with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alex has been privileged to work under some fantastic musicians including Mark Elder, Vassily Sinaisky, Nicholas Kraemer, Mark Shannahan and Elgar Howarth. He has also performed in masterclasses with Jeff Nelson (formerly of Canadian Brass), Julian Plumber, Frank Lloyd, Thomas Jobstle, Nigel Downing, Becky Goldberg, Bob Ashworth and Hakan Hardenberger.

In his spare time Alex is passionate about cricket, enjoying both watching and playing, this passion also runs through to football and rugby. In January 2007 Alex joined Tempus Brass and has since added his vitality and virtuosity to the group.
