Lisa was born in Rochdale and took up the trombone at the age of 12. From an early age she was surrounded by a brass band tradition and gained most of her early experience with these local groups. Lisa studied at Huddersfield University with Jonathan Beatty, it was here that she won both the Orchestral Brass prize and the Concerto Prize which led to solo performances with the Huddersfield University Symphony Orchestra and Brass Band. After graduating from Huddersfield Lisa continued her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied with Rob Holliday, Chris Holding and Andy Berryman. After two year tuition she gained her Post Graduate Diploma and Masters in Music both with distinctions! She also competed in competitions inside the RNCM and made it to the final round in a competition to perform a solo with the RNCM symphony orchestra. Lisa has played with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Opera North as well as performances with Halle Brass. In September 2006 Lisa was appointed principal trombone with The Fairey Band (16 times British Open Champions). She has performed both as a section leader and soloist with this fine band. In her spare time Lisa enjoys socialising with friends and penning new compositions for the quintet (a possible new work “FMT” will be premiered soon we hope). |
