Paul began studying the tuba at the age of 10 in his home town of Wallasey with Gabriele Horne. During these first few years he played with many of the local bands and orchestras, touring France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Whilst studying at St. Anselms Collee he was awarded two Gold Medals and three Silver Medals at the Liverpool Festival of Music, receiving one Gold Medal with honours. 

In 2002 Paul was awarded a place at Chethams’ School of Music in Manchester. During his time there he worked with conductors such as Dmitri Liss, Yan Pascal Torteier and Mark Elder playing concerts all over England with the Chethams’ Symphony Orchestra including a joint concert with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003 Paul toured Australia with the English Schools Orchestra, playing in Brisbane, Melbourne, Cambra and Sydney and in 2004 toured Romania with the Morgan Brass Quintet. Whilst studying at Chethams’ Paul received tuition from Brian Kingsley, Ewan Easton, Roger Bobo, Thierry Thiebald and Robin Haggart. 

In 2004 Paul began his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music where he currently studies with Brian Kingsley and Ewan Easton. As well as playing for various college ensembles, Paul has performed with Sellers Brass Band and the Black Dyke Band and quintet. In his spare time Paul is an avid writer, but has yet to win a Nobel Prize.
